Public Works

The Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance, rehabilitation and development of all municipal roads (over 180 kilometers).
 
Some of the services the department provides for are winter operations such as snow removal and sanding, summer operations such as grading and dust control, road signage, drainage, and street lighting.

Update: Road Closure Notice – Shaw Rd

Update – July 9, 2025
Road Reopened
Shaw Road is now fully reopened to traffic as of noon on July 8, 2025.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during this temporary closure.
 
After-Hours Safety Concerns

Notice - 2025 Property Tax Due Date Change

The Municipality of French River has changed the 2025 property tax installment due dates to:

  • First Installment: July 16, 2025
  • Second Installment: August 13, 2025

This change was approved by Council during the 2025 budget process (March) to help manage municipal cash flow. Tax bills were mailed on June 18, 2025, meeting the required 21 days' notice under the Municipal Act. However, we acknowledge we could have provided earlier public notice and apologize for the inconvenience.

Payment Options:

  • Pre-Authorized Payment Plan (PAP):
    • Pay monthly with automatic withdrawals—no lump sum payments or missed due dates. Contact our office to enroll.
  • Online Banking:
    • Use your Roll Number as your account number.
  • In Person:
  • By Mail:

Splash Pad Now Open for the Season!

As of Thursday, June 20, the splash pad is officially open and ready for summer fun!

We kindly remind all visitors to respect the public space and help us keep the area clean and safe for everyone to enjoy.
Our team inspects the splash pad daily, but accidents can happen — if you notice an issue, please report it by calling 705-898-2294 so municipal staff can respond promptly.

Notice to Residents – Bell Fibre Installation in Progress

Bell Canada and their contractor, Aecon, are currently working in the Municipality of French River to expand the fibre optic internet network.

Residents may see representatives going door-to-door to request permission for installation on private property. All workers carry official ID and documentation.

Reminder: Do not share personal or financial information. If in doubt, contact Bell directly at 1-866-310-BELL (2355).
